This position is located in the Nursing Service - Outpatient and Specialty Clinics a VA Boston covering Jamaica Plain, West Roxbury, Brockton and CBOCs. This position is full-time at 40 hours per week.
The ACNS of Outpatient and Specialty Clinics, is responsible for administrative functions of the outpatient division of the VA Boston Healthcare System that fall under Nursing Service at all three main campuses and selected community based outpatient clinics (CBOC's) with imbedded Specialty Clinics.
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Executes leadership that is characterized by substantial and continuous responsibility and accountability for population groups or integrated programs that cross service and or discipline lines, influence organizational mission and health care, and responsibility for outcomes. Functions as an leader, educator, and consultant utilizing management theory in collaboration with clinical and administrative services.
Establishes and maintains effective relationships with all levels of medical center personnel and relate effectively with customers, families, and the community, as well as, program and service leaders at the local and network levels. Key relationships with staff are needed to Assist Nurse Managers and advance practitioners to carry out the functions and activities expected of them.
Contribute ideas and recommendations for the establishment of standards of care, policies, and objectives for the enhancement of nursing organization-wide Assist in policy-making activities as related to customer service and the overall functioning of administrative and clinical programs Collaborate with other healthcare staff to establish and maintain programs which cross service and/or discipline lines and influence organizational mission and health care.
Additional responsibilities include budget planning and management, staffing projections and utilization, coaching, development and supervision of nurse managers and coordinators. Responsible for program development, performance management, leadership, labor management activities, and has a leadership role in the outpatient and specialty clinic service line activities for Nursing Service.
The Nurse CN functions as an advisor, administrator, educator, consultant, and mentor who possesses a wide range of experience and leadership ability. The ACN provides senior leadership and oversight for daily clinical and administrative operations within nursing as directed by the Associate Director for Patient Care Services (ADPCS).
The ACN supports the integration and collaboration of nursing with other professional disciplines and functional areas in the mutual achievement of patient-centered and organizational goals. They champion a High Reliability Organization (HRO) with a lifestyle of safety founded on a systems approach to developing evidence-based health care solutions based on prevention, not punishment, with collective mindfulness.
The ACN collaborates with interdisciplinary team members, including other program and service leaders at the facility and network. They work closely to establish and maintain effective relationships with all levels of Veteran Affairs (VA) staff nationwide. The ACN relates effectively with customers, families, and the community as well as program and service leaders at the local and network levels.
They assist the ADPCS with healthcare operations and the functions and activities expected of them. The ACN contributes ideas and recommendations for the establishment of standards of care, policies, and objectives for the enhancement of nursing.
