This position is located in the Legal Division, Labor Unit of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and is responsible for providing legal counsel on labor and employment laws and regulations, conducting associated investigations, and defending the FDIC in labor and employment litigation and arbitration proceedings. As an Attorney Advisor in the Legal Division, your duties may include: Represents the Corporation in labor and employment litigation matters, often involving complex legal issues, pending in Federal administrative agencies (e.g., the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Federal Labor Relations Authority (FLRA) and Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB), Federal court, as well as in labor arbitrations and mediations.
Prepares legal briefs, office memoranda and other legal documents on complex, sensitive legal issues, including those involving questions of first impression and with strongly conflicting precedents which require extensive research, analyses and ingenuity to resolve. Works closely with LEAS paralegals and support staff in the preparation of litigation documents and documentation pertaining to performance and disciplinary issues.
Provides advice and counsel on a routine basis to client divisions and other senior management officials on the development of important, formal FDIC policies and positions in the labor-management and employee relations areas. Serves as the Legal Division's representative on FDIC's management bargaining team and assists in the negotiation of contracts with the labor organization representing FDIC employees.
