Job Summary

This position is with the U. S. Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Dallas Region. It is in the Dallas Regional Office. The full performance level of this position is GS-13. Position is in the bargaining unit. A writing sample may be included as a part of the interview process. Selectee will be expected to report to the office.

Key Responsibilities

Major Duties include, but are not limited to, the following: Plans, develops and coordinates activities necessary to ensure the proper and consistent implementation of the Process Safety Management Standard (PSMS). Plans and evaluates safety compliance methodology and develops internal liaison with employer and employee organizations as well as with the Regional Solicitor's office and with publicly organized safety and health groups.

Acts as liaison between the OSHA Regional Office and officials from the United States (US) Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other Federal, State, and local jurisdictions on projects involving chemical safety and/or process safety matters. Serves as the PSM Coordinator and chemical process safety specialist responsible for assisting the Area Offices in protecting employees from exposure to toxic substances and chemical catastrophes.

Ensures region-wide consistency among ten (10) Area Offices and the State of New Mexico in the application and interpretation of the Federal Compliance Program and all appropriate National and Regional policies and procedures. Conducts assistance visits to industrial facilities to analyze complex chemical processes, engineering advances related to the feasibility of standards and to evaluate evidence of safety and health hazards.

Provides analyses, recommendations, and evaluations of engineering feasibility of proposed abatements, standards, variances and supports other occupational safety and health projects which impact upon the chemical industry.
