Job Summary

The El Paso VA Health Care System, El Paso, TX is seeking a full-time Chiropractor to join their team to provide examination, diagnosis, treatment, and management of non-operative musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions including subluxation to the Veterans. This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP).

Key Responsibilities

Chiropractors are licensed independent providers who work as part of VA interdisciplinary teams including physical medicine and rehabilitation, primary care, pain management, other relevant medical and surgical specialties, and other relevant associated health disciplines. Duties include the following: Provides a full range of diagnostic and evaluation services appropriate as part of the Whole Health (WH) approach to Veteran-centric care.

Expected to provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the promotion of health, prevention of illness, treatment of disease, and care at the end of life. Demonstrate knowledge of established and evolving biomedical, clinical and social sciences, and the application of their knowledge to patient care and the education of others.

Provides a full range of scientific evidence and methods to investigate, evaluate, and improve patient care, with special emphasis on brief and evidenced based interventions found to be effective in pain management. Is considered a subject matter expert on VA and/or community resources on a variety of unusually difficult chiropractic cases which are referred by other services for resolution and recommended courses of action to provide maximum rehabilitation.

Identifies, develops and facilitates accessibility and utilization of VA and community resources to meet the needs of Veteran, their family, and clinics. He/she collaborates with and utilizes other members of the healthcare and WH team to provide comprehensive care to patients. Uses clinical judgment ensuring practice-based learning and improvement are used in scientific evidence and methods to investigate, evaluate, and improve patient care.

He/she provides interpersonal and communication skills that enable them to establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and other members of the health care team. Knowledge and understanding of the contexts and systems in which health care is provided, and the ability to apply this knowledge to improve optimizing health care.

Documents each Veteran's progress by creating a progress note for each encounter; progress notes are written to address the Veteran's individual plan of care problem list. Revises the plan of care in accordance with clinic procedure and enters patient data into the computerized patient record system (CPRS) using the appropriate formats and templates.

This information will be entered in a complete, confidential, timely and professional manner to ensure information regarding the patient can be shared with other VA staff. Will attend all appropriate staff meetings and perform other duties as required. Responsible for staying abreast of current theory and treatment modalities by reading professional journals, attending conferences, clinic seminars and teleconferences, and materials made available at EPVAHCS.

Demonstrates general knowledge of Veterans' benefits and services relating to special programs, service-connected compensation, and non-service-connected pension. Facilitates referrals based upon needs and eligibility. Uses initiative and resourcefulness in deviating from traditional methods or trends and patterns to develop new methods, criteria, and propose new policies. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday (8:00 a.m. - 4:45 p.m.) VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.

Relocation/Recruitment Incentives: EDRP Authorized: This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.

Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Requirements & Education

United States schools or colleges of chiropractic listed as accredited by the Council on Chiropractic Education, at http://www.cce-usa.org/, or equivalent agency, in the list published for the year in which the course of study was completed. Note: Only education or degrees recognized by the U.S. Department of Education from accredited colleges, universities, schools, or institutions may be used to qualify for Federal employment.
