This vacancy is for a GS-0301-11, Command Center Watchstander located in the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Coast Guard, SECTOR NORTHERN GREAT LAKES COMMAND CENTER in SAULT STE MARIE, Michigan.
You will serve as a Command Center Watchstander and be responsible for serving as a Coast Guard Sector Command Center Operations Unit Watchstander, maintaining information management, situational awareness, and command and control for all Coast Guard operations within the Sector's area of responsibility. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.
Typical work assignments include: Overseeing and monitoring the Sectors response to Search and Rescue (SAR) cases in order to minimize loss of life and property at sea. Maintaining command and control of Coast Guard assets conducting Ports Waterways and Coastal Security (PWCS) missions.
Entering data into a variety of different Coast Guard data-bases used to track status of personnel, customers and boats; report cases; measure effectiveness; and document Coast Guard missions executed in the Sector AOR. Routinely interacting with federal, state, and local government agencies while coordinating response to SAR, Law Enforcement, PWCS, MER, and other Coast Guard missions.
Providing training and upholds qualifications standards for members standing watch in the SCC. Mandatory training is required which must be successfully completed and other training may occur as necessary for success in the position. Within one year of arrival, the incumbent is required to complete Maritime Search and Rescue Planning School and Command Center School at TRACEN Yorktown.
