Job Summary

Veterans Benefits Administration Education Service has department-wide responsibility for administering VA educational assistance through the various GI Bill programs for Veterans Service members, National Guard and Reserve members, and eligible dependents. The mission is accomplished by providing financial assistance, generally in the form of monthly benefit payments, as mandated in Title 38 and Title 10, United States Code.

The Deputy Director will report directly to the Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities

The position is located within the Veterans Benefits Administration's (VBA) Education Service. The responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 1. Responsibility for the operational governance of Education Service, ensuring that program metrics, quality standards, and service delivery targets are achieved across all functional areas. 2. Serving as the executive authority over the internal Education Service program management portfolio. 3.

Ensuring Education Service programs are administered in accordance with applicable statute, regulation, and VBA policy. 4. Overseeing responses to findings from the Office of Inspector General, Government Accountability Office, Office of Accountability and Whistleblower Protection, Office of Management and Budget, and financial and compliance auditors. 5.

Providing executive oversight to ensure that Education Service's national training programs are coordinated, reflect consistent standards, and meet VA and VBA enterprise training requirements. 6. Briefing Congressional staff, the Office of Management and Budget, and other senior stakeholders on GI Bill programs, bills, and legislative proposals as well as representing Education Service at interagency meetings and multi-agency work groups

Requirements & Education

If you are qualifying for this position by substituting education or training for experience, submit a copy of your transcripts or equivalent. An official transcript will be required if you are selected. A college or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to Department of Education Accreditation page.

Foreign Education: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
