This position is located at the Kansas City VA Medical Center within the Health Information Management Sections (HIMS) of the Business Operations Service. This position is administratively located under the direct supervision of the File Room/Scanning Supervisor.
This position is located at the Kansas City VA Medical Center, within the Health Information Management Section (HIMS) of the Business Operations Service (BOS) and supports the transition from maintaining paper health records to electronic health records through the use of Computerized Patient Records System (CPRS) templates or other scanning procedures.Major duties include, but are not limited to: Performs duties related to medical records: receipt, intake, scanning, indexing, quality control, destruction, and transfer of health and administrative information.
Scans various health information documents and assures that the scanned documents are associated to the correct patient and note in CPRS. Confirms record integrity and review the image quality. Ensures regular quality checks are carried out according to described time frames and criteria. Notifies the Supervisor when images are scanned into the wrong patient's record, are indexed incorrectly or corrupted.
Reviews received documents to ensure they meet appropriate scanning criteria and that all necessary health/administrative information meeting the criteria is integrated into CPRS through the scanning software and hardware. Indexes all documents imported from other devices or sources, including pdf, tiff, jpeg files, etc in VistA Imaging. Maintains confidentiality of all electronic records and paper components of the health records.
Utilizes computers to perform a wide variety of record keeping, correspondence, and tracking operations. Interacts daily with other administrative and clerical staff members throughout the facility. Communicates and treats customers in a courteous, tactful and respectful manner providing the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures.
