Job Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application.

Key Responsibilities

There are two General Dentistry positions available: One position is located at the Dallas VA Medical Center in Dallas, TX. The other position is located at the Tyler Centennial VA Clinic in Tyler, TX. Duties The General Dentistry dental officer shall be proficient in all aspects of general dentistry including the ability to perform selected specialty services.

Specifically, the provider should possess the expertise and competency to perform the following: Patient Care: Makes oral and radiographic examinations of the oral cavity. Diagnoses pathological or irregular oral conditions. Administers local anesthesia. Performs routine and complex restoration of teeth. Performs simple and complex extractions of teeth. Performs alveoloplasty and other routine surgical procedures.

Performs prosthetic dentistry to include immediate dentures, full dentures, partial dentures, crowns, and fixed bridge work. Performs implant restorations. Perform routine endodontic procedures on single and multi-canal teeth. Perform routine and surgical procedures within the scope of a general dentist. The responsibilities of the position include overall administrative and clinical responsibility for all aspects of your dental clinic(s).

The Dental Service Administrative Officer and other members of the Dental Service will support you in this, as you deem necessary. You will work with the Dental Hygienists, Dental Assistants and Dental Lab Technicians, Advanced Education in General Dentistry Residents (GPR) assigned to the Dental Service. Coordinates assignment of responsibilities commensurate with the responsibilities expected of these individuals to maintain efficient clinic operations.

Infection Control and Equipment Sterilization Demonstrates proper infection control procedures. Completes annual mandatory Infection Control Training. Information Management Maintains patient confidentiality per HIPAA with written and verbal information. Protects printed and electronic files containing sensitive data in accordance with the provisions of the Privacy Act of 1974 and other applicable laws, federal regulations, VA statutes and policy, and VHA policy.

Protects the data from unauthorized release or from loss, alteration, or unauthorized deletion. Follows applicable regulations and instructions regarding access to computerized files, release of access codes, etc., as set out in the computer access agreement. Patient Safety Modifies care as necessitated by patient's age and abilities (patient transfer and position). Provides accurate and understandable instructions to patients.

Participates in patient identification and time out per Joint Commission requirements. Monitors patient condition during treatment, being alert for signs of physical distress. Completes annual mandatory patient safety courses. Employee Education Complies with Employee Education requirements of 40 hours/year. Completes mandatory annual safety training sessions per medical center policy.

Continuing Education will be identified, planned, supported, documented and validated for each Employee. VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.
