Job Summary
Serves as a Govt Info Specialist in the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Division within the Privacy, Civil Liberties, and Transparency Directorate (PCLTD). The PCLT Directorate unifies key compliance programs governing privacy, civil liberties, transparency, intelligence oversight, and regulations.
The FOIA Division is responsible for the DoW implementation of the FOIA, including policy development, administration of the DoW FOIA Program, and the adjudication of FOIA appeals and litigation.
Key Responsibilities
Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following: Assists the FOIA Director in exercising appeal-processing oversight for OSW/JS Components and the Combatant Commands. Analyzes appeals involving constructive denials, as well as administrative issues such as denials of expedited processing, fee waivers, or failures to respond within statutory timeframes.
Implements DoW policies and programs for public access to DoW information under the FOIA and for first-party access to personal records under the Privacy Act (5 U.S.C. § 552a). Prepares and presents high-level briefings of conclusions, many of which are highly subjective and not readily susceptible to verification until encountered in actual operational situations.
