Job Summary

This position is located within Environmental Management Services (EMS) of a Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center. The primary purpose of this position is to exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in supporting and performing task (e.g., environment of care, textile distribution and training) associated with the EMS goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Delegated responsibility for assigning staff for routine and non-routine duties on a daily and a project-by-project basis. Responsible for the cleaning of all patient areas, corridor spaces throughout Medical Center, Operating Rooms, and all other areas as assigned. Plans daily and weekly assignments, scheduling periodic work for areas of responsibility, taking into consideration the availability of personnel and equipment to meet established priorities.

Trains staff and ensures that they are using the patient centered care principles in terms of customer service to patients, patients' family members and personnel. Provides on-the job training for subordinates as individual needs dictate. Schedules regular meetings with staff to make them aware of new procedures or directives.

Works independently following up on all work assignments to ensure that established procedures, work assignments and safety standards are being properly applied. Follows oral and written instructions, interprets policies and work procedures. Advises and counsels workers on how to improve their performance and explain new work techniques.

Makes scheduled and non-scheduled inspections throughout assigned areas to assure that employees are productively occupied, that work is being accomplished in a timely manner, and that rules and regulations are being observed by service personnel. Reads, understands, and follows the equipment manufacturers' instructions on how to properly operate, clean and maintain equipment.

Knowledge on the use of cleaning equipment (e.g., floor scrubbers, buffers, ultra-violet (UV) technology and vacuum cleaners) and other related equipment. Basic computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook). Performs other related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Mon-Fri, 4:00pm -12:30am Position Description Title/PD#: Housekeeping Aid Supervisor/PD99911S Physical Requirements: The work performed requires walking, standing, stooping, stretching, and lifting.

Physical effort is required when performing housekeeping duties, operating equipment, during training sessions, or in emergency situations. Work is performed in all areas of the medical center.
