In this position you will work as a member of the Mount Weather Emergency Operations Center (MWEOC), IT Services Division. The ideal candidate for this position will have experience in enterprise level Windows operating system platforms, advanced Microsoft Active Directory administration, the installation and administration of information security tools and familiarity with Linux operating system administration in a growing Linux environment.
All MWEOC staff have emergency assignments and are considered deployed in place. Exercises and activations are planned and unplanned, and may require long hours, nights, weekends and holidays. All MWEOC employees are: (1) required to use a government-issued electronic device (to include cellular phones); (2) subject to recall during emergency situations; and (3) required to perform work in locations both above and below ground. In this position, you will serve as an Information Technology Specialist (SYSADMIN) responsible for assisting with the planning, scheduling, installation, configuration, and maintenance of hardware, operating systems, and application software. Typical assignments include: Installing, administering, and supporting server- and workstation-based applications under established procedures.
Assisting with the development, modification, and testing of system backup and recovery strategies to support the readiness, resiliency, and security of classified and unclassified systems. Applying system software changes, operating system updates, and patches to help maintain system availability and improve the organization's cybersecurity posture.
Configuring devices, drivers, and system settings in accordance with system hardening standards and information security guidelines. Supporting enterprise Windows operating system platforms and Microsoft Active Directory environments. Assisting with basic Linux system administration tasks as the organization's Linux footprint continues to grow.
Troubleshooting routine system issues and escalating more complex problems to senior administrators or technical leads, as appropriate. What else do I need to know? Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
