Job Summary

The Laundry Worker Leader will provide support to the Laundry Supervisor via Linen Processing, Leadership Support, and various duties in Environmental Management Service for the Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care System. This position will lead a group of 8 laundry workers in safe, efficient, and economical processing of an annual workload of approximately 750,000 lbs. of linens at the Jack C. Montgomery VAMC and Ernest Childers VA Outpatient Clinic.

Key Responsibilities

The Laundry Worker Leader will perform supervisory duties in Laundry Worker Supervisor's absence. Additional duties include but are not limited to the following tasks: Restocks the Automated Linen and Scrub machines. Receiving, sorts, and marks soiled linen and apparel. Performs minor machine maintenance. Processes industrial linens, employee uniforms and patient wearing apparel. Completes assignment, assignment changes and/or work.

Ensures laundry schedule to include linen items, materials, chemicals, and tools are available. Communicates changes in process, policy, and work assignments. Maintains statistics, records, and logs for inventory and reporting. Communicate instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines. Identifies and sorts laundry items received from a processing facility based on purpose. Restocks supplies as needed to perform job duties.

Sorts special processing items, such as, pillows, wool blankets, and surgery and isolation linen for distribution. Trains others on safe, proper handling of soiled linens, use of cleaning materials, tools and industrial laundry equipment. Recognizes and reports to safety issues and/or problems with equipment, machinery, supplies, and staffing. Observes safety signs, directions and instructions.

Stays informed on current laundry procedures, policies, instructions, and other directives. Provides on-the-job training on safety, work sequence, use of materials, tools and equipment. Uses or experience using computer software such as spreadsheets and processing programs such a Word and Excel may perform driving of an automobile and is expected to obtain GSA approvals for vehicle usage.

Work may involve travel to campuses and community-based outpatient clinics to provide training. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 6:00am to 2:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Laundry Worker Leader/PD144960 Physical Requirements: Most tasks require varying degrees of muscular effort and hand to eye coordination to assure safe and efficient use of equipment and supplies.

Work requires frequent bending or stooping, prolonged walking, standing, working in cramped positions, and climbing. Work requires frequent lifting and moving heavy items weighing 40 to 50 pounds. Occasionally lifts objects weighing over 50 pounds. Work requires visual acuity to assure completion of tasks in acceptably clean and aseptic manner. Work requires the pushing and pulling of wheeled carts that weight up to 650 lbs.

Occasionally will be required to drive to other Eastern Oklahoma VA, CBOC facilities, when needed, driver's license is required for duties. Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Incumbent generally works in a well-ventilated, air-conditioned, and well-lighted area. However, incumbent is constantly exposed to potential contamination and unclean surroundings. Many tasks require muscular effort and hand to eye coordination. Prolonged walking and standing are required. Incumbent follows predetermined work procedures but must determine independently when a job is done well.

However, he/she is constantly exposed to potential contamination and unclean surroundings and must be able to understand and follow procedures. The work environment demands strong physical capabilities and the ability to focus. Must be able to work independently and under stressful conditions. Incumbent may be exposed to hazardous materials and/or diseases as part of duties.
