This position is assigned to the Environmental Management Service (EMS) of the Veterans Healthcare System of the Ozarks, Fayetteville, Arkansas. The primary purpose of the position is to provide support to the Laundry Supervisor via Linen Processing, Leadership Support and various duties. Lead a group of employees ranging from WG-4, WG-3, WG-2 and GS3.
Incumbent will process hospital linens, employee uniforms and patient wearing apparel on a timely basis to meet general production schedules.
Duties: Ability to operate industrial size machinery. Ability to work with handheld machinery. knowledge of cleaning machinery. Ensures an aseptic handling of items while transporting and distributing. Carries out specific tasks as assigned by supervisor. Keep work area neat and orderly at all times.
Operating knowledge of clean side equipment, including garment finisher, small washer, large and small dryers, spreader/feeder/ironer/folder, stacker conveyor, small and large piece folders.
Basic knowledge of the operating principles of commercial washing, and knowledge to select the correct wash formula from the provided chart for the selected wash load, and basic knowledge of the cart wash operation system, water and air systems to identify proper operations and procedures, to shut down the equipment if a malfunction occurs.
Knowledge and skill to operate the lift and rail system to correctly direct the proper linen pulled from washer/extractors to appropriate rail storage, to be dried or ironed. Prepare and submit reports. Ability to comprehend oral and written instructions. Experience or training in safely using cleaning materials and supplies. Constantly alert to the operation of machines assigned, be aware of any malfunctions, and know the procedure for shutting down equipment.
