Job Summary

This position is located at the San Francisco Veterans Affairs Health Care System (SFVAHCS) in San Francisco, California serving as a Law Enforcement Specialist (Training Coordinator) - Training Manager and Lead Firearms Armorer, overseeing the training section supervising other instructors in collaboration with the Chief of Police.

Key Responsibilities

The major duties of this position include, but are not limited to: Planning, organizing, and managing all aspects of the Police Service training program in accordance with VA Handbook 0730, established training policies, and Federal guidelines. Maintaining accurate and current training records, ensuring all required training is completed within established timeframes. Providing routine advisement regarding training accomplishments, deficiencies, and potential problems.

Preparing reports and disseminates accurate and useful information to Police Service personnel and management officials to meet quality and quantity standards established by the Department of Justice, OSLE, and the Law Enforcement Training Center. Overseeing the Field Training and Evaluation Program (FTEP) program. This program is a detailed initial training conducted at the facility level for all new VA Police hires.

Observing and evaluating the performance of Police Officer Training Instructors during quarterly training sessions, monthly rapid response drills, and real-world situations. Reviewing police reports for proper classification under Uniform Crime Report (UCR) categories and provides feedback through appropriate channels. Conducting Use of Force reviews to determine appropriateness, documents findings, and reports results.

Serving as the primary liaison for training-related matters with VA Central Office, other facilities, and external law enforcement partners. Coordinating local and/or regional training with outside law enforcement partners. Maintaining technical expertise in firearms maintenance and ensures compliance with all applicable standards and safety requirements. Work Schedule: Full-time, Monday-Friday 8:00am-4:30pm. Compressed/Flexible: Not authorized. Telework: Not Authorized.

Financial Disclosure: Not Required. Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases Notifications: This position is covered by a General Schedule locality salary rate. Current and former Federal employees must submit copies of their most recent SF-50 (Notice of Personnel Action).

The SF-50 must identify the position, title, series, grade, step, tenure and type of service (competitive or excepted). In some cases, more than one SF-50 may be required to show a higher grade previously held. Veterans' preference does not apply for internal or other current permanent Federal agency employees. This position is not a Bargaining Unit position. Selectee will be required to complete additional forms to proceed with employment process.

There is no educational substitution for this GS-09 Law Enforcement Specialist. Note: Only education or degrees recognized by the U.S. Department of Education from accredited colleges, universities, schools, or institutions may be used to qualify for Federal employment.
