Job Summary

The Lead Medical Instrument Technician (MIT) position is located in the Gastroenterology (GI Lab) Laboratory at the CW Bill Young Medical Center in Bay Pines, Florida. The GI Lab MIT serves as a technical expert and will be responsible for answering questions for all staff on gastroenterology procedures and equipment. The position in non-supervisory but carries responsibility for workflow coordination, staff guidance, and technical oversight.

Key Responsibilities

Duties and responsibilities of the Lead Medical Instrument Technician (Gastroenterology) include, but are not limited to: The GI Lab Lead MIT at this level aids the physician in all aspects of gastroenterology and endoscopic procedures such as esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD), colonoscopy, endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), and endoscopic ultrasound.

The GI Lab Lead MIT ensures proper performance of equipment, sets up equipment, reprocesses endoscopic reuseable medical equipment (RME), and assists in complex interventions. The GI Lab Lead MIT will float to all areas as assigned by Nursing Leadership.

The GI Lab Lead MIT is responsible for participating within unit based and/or organizational level Shared Governance councils, utilizing clinical expertise, evidence-based practice, and knowledge to assist with finding solutions to problems or issues to improve the quality care provided to our veterans. The Lead MIT collaborates closely with the Nurse Manager, Charge Nurse, and Gastroenterology Service Providers to ensure consistent operations, safety, and staff competency.

It is essential the GI Lab staff understand and adhere to the established policies regarding on-call shifts. All members of the GI Lab On-Call Team are mandated to be in the facility within 60 minutes from the time the initial call was initiated. It is necessary to work quickly whenever an emergency case is called, and the on-call personnel are needed. The GI Lab Lead MIT collects, processes, and labels all specimens. Must participate in on-call and emergency procedures.

The GI Lab Lead MIT will inventory and maintain par levels of specialty equipment for the GI Lab.

Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00am - 3:30pm with on-call Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
