Job Summary

The Lead Medical Support Assistant (LMSA) position serves as the Lead for all Medical Support Assistant (MSA) and is a foundational role within the VHA Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) initiative to include all interdisciplinary clinics and call centers that support the initiative. Patient care is delivered in a team-based model known as the teamlet.

Members of the team include the MSA, a RN Care Manager, a Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse and a Primary Care Provider.

Assignments at this level include but not limited to: The Lead MSA works collaboratively in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model (i.e., PACT, Specialty, C&P and Call Center) and performs all related duties such as customer service and other duties assigned for the proper and timely treatment of patients and assure appointment schedules are maintained by MSA staff for one or more outpatient clinics.

The incumbent must assist with clinic access contingency plans by adjusting appointment times, location, or dates as well as shift patients to other healthcare providers as conflict with staffing and/or coverage occurs.

The Lead MSA will have the responsibility of performing the duties related to the Beneficiary Travel Program which includes assuring travel requests are processed in a timely manner and that they are reviewed with appropriate documentation completed before sending to Fiscal Service. Supports patient safety standards using the correct VA identification of all patients through the use of two forms of identification, name and full Social Security Number and/date of birth.

When records are received, the incumbent(s) will ensure that all necessary health/administrative information are integrated into Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) by sending the documents to the appropriate department for scanning. Incumbent(s) must screen/receive phone calls in a courteous and timely manner, determine the nature of requests and provide the information desired using privacy rules and established clinic processes.

Incumbent(s) must be able train staff on the requirements of VHA Scheduling Directives and complete accurate scheduling responsibilities. The Lead MSA may be asked to participate in the PACT daily teamlet huddles and weekly team meetings participate in patient care planning and management. Incumbent(s) will rotate this to assure all MSA staff is in attendance and understands the process. Other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Full-Time; Monday through Friday - 7:30am to 4:00pm with Rotating Saturdays Recruitment/Relocation Incentives (Sign-on Bonus): Not Authorized Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not Authorized Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.

Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Telework: Ad-Hoc - May be authorized at supervisory discretion.
