Job Summary

The Dayton, Ohio Veterans Affairs Medical Center is recruiting for well-qualified Lead Medical Support Assistants (Advanced), within the Patient Business Service. The Lead MSA is responsible for the coordination of Advanced MSA (AMSA) assignments and workflow found in an interdisciplinary unit.

The Lead AMSA is responsible for daily workload assessments, assigning work, and assuring proper staffing coverage; evaluating training records; and determining training needs of AMSAs.

VA Careers - Medical Support Assistant: https://youtube.com/embed/EE9c4XkaELo Assignments at this level include, but are not limited to: assuring coverage of all areas ofresponsibility; conducting ongoing reviews to ensure quality of work; ensuring accurate and timely scheduling of appointments; providing guidance to staff members to include changes in policies and procedures; distributing and balancing workload; orienting and providing on-the-job training for new and current employees; ensuring all training requirements are met; organizing the work structure of his/her assigned areas; and acting as liaison between AMSAs and other staff in order to resolve day to day conflicts.

assists in collaboration of an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model and performs all related duties; customer service and other duties assigned for the proper and timely treatment of patients and assure appointment schedules are maintained by all scheduling staff. As frontline contact with patients and staff, the Lead MSA sets the tone for perception concerning quality of healthcare services at the VA.

A high degree of tact and diplomacy is required when dealing with Veterans who have multiple health problems and who may be frustrated with the administrative process associated with diagnosis and treatment. A caring, compassionate and sensitive manner is essential when explaining procedures to Veterans and their family members both in person and on the phone.

Duties include, but are not limited to: utilizing knowledge of ED procedures and processes using knowledge of ED services and procedure guidelines inventorying and ordering administrative supplies for the daily operations using appropriate VA applications utilizing the Pre-Registration Menu option utilizing knowledge of managing ward units setting the tone for perception concerning quality of healthcare services at the VA screening/receiving phone calls in a courteous and timely manner responsible for following through on providers' orders sending, receiving and\or processing sensitive information and reports in accordance with established procedures meeting, communicating, and interacting with individuals from varying backgrounds and with other health care team members to complete job assignments maintaining patient confidentiality with information, per HIPAA requirements complying with Employee Education requirements working in a proficient and self-directed manner Work Schedule: Sunday - Saturday, 3:30 pm - Midnight with rotating weekends and holidays Telework: Not Available Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
