Key Responsibilities

If selected for this position, you will serve as a Legal Administrative Specialist responsible for supporting Assistant U.S. Attorneys in either the criminal and/or the civil division. The role of a Legal Administrative Specialist largely resembles that traditionally performed by legal assistants, paralegals, and e-litigation professionals in law firms.

Typical work assignments will include litigation support tasks and legal assistance services including: Using technology and automated software to manage incoming and outgoing documents and requests. Drafting routine correspondence and a variety of technical legal documents, e.g., complaints, motions, orders, answers, pleadings, subpoenas.

Managing, organizing, reviewing, and summarizing incoming and outgoing electronic discovery productions or other formats in compliance with the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure or Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. Electronically filing legal pleadings, stipulations, motions, briefs (including appeal briefs), affidavits, declarations, and other legal documents as directed by attorneys in state and federal courts using PACER or other platforms.

Proofreading, formatting, and cite-checking legal briefs, memoranda, and other legal documents for grammatical and spelling errors. Working with attorneys and client agencies to prepare witness lists, facilitate timely receipt of relevant evidence, and identify most effective litigation strategy.

Operating a variety of computer software and equipment, printers, scanners, digital imaging, and audio-visual devices to create exhibits that can be effectively used in depositions or at trial, including charts, spreadsheets, diagrams, and photographs.

Preparing and maintaining a variety of trial-related documents including witness lists, exhibit lists, jury instructions, and trial subpoenas by applying knowledge of the Federal Rules of Evidence and Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure or Federal Rules of Civil Procedure as well as application of practical legal experience. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements & Education

All academic degrees and coursework must be completed at a college or university that has obtained accreditation or pre-accreditation status from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
