Job Summary
This position resides within the Secretariat for Special Operations (SSO), Office of the Assistant Secretary of War for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict (OASW(SO/LIC)). Under 10 U.S.C. §§ 138 and 167, the ASW(SO/LIC) is the principal civilian advisor to the Secretary of War for special operations and oversees SOF readiness, resources, equipment, and civilian personnel.
Key Responsibilities
Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following: Serves as a Congressional Liaison and primary point of contact for legislative and congressional matters affecting Special Operations programs, policies, missions, and resources. Analyzes complex legislative, policy, authorization, and appropriations issues to assess their impact on Special Operations programs, priorities, and organizational objectives.
Develops, reviews, and coordinates responses to congressional inquiries, testimony, briefing materials, information papers, legislative proposals, appeals, and other congressional correspondence. Plans and coordinates congressional engagements, hearings, briefings, and related activities with Members of Congress, congressional staff, senior Department officials, and internal and external stakeholders.
Advises senior leadership on congressional and legislative matters, develops recommended courses of action and engagement strategies, and communicates organizational positions on sensitive or high-visibility issues.
