The position is in the Library Collections and Services Group, Discovery and Preservation Services, Preservation Directorate, Preservation Services Division, Business Operations Support Section. As the Library Technician, you will: Perform complex supporting work in a specialty area of collection materials preservation. Perform physical handling of the microform collections.
Utilize established Library techniques and methods to track and apply appropriate labels, bar-code labels, security devices, and/or property stamps across the Library. Determine and conducts more advanced quality review of the microform collections. Determine which items need repair or reproduction. Coordinate procedures for routing materials for repair, housing, binding, or reformatting. Process a wide variety of library materials for analog or digital preservation actions.
Stay knowledge of bibliographic tools and procedures. Resolve collection discrepancies and fixes record and holding errors. Locate hard-to-find items. Oversee inventory management by providing quality control for contractors and library staff. Manage inquiries and liaisons by responding to non-routine questions regarding master microform collections and establish liaisons with custodial divisions to resolve collection problems.
Conduct searches for items with inaccurate or incomplete bibliographic, holding, and item records. Perform other duties as assigned. The position description number for this position is 470537. The salary range indicated reflects the locality pay adjustments for the Washington, D.C., Metropolitan area. The incumbent of this position will work a Flexitime work schedule. This is a non-supervisory, bargaining unit position.
