Job Summary

You will serve as a Maintenance Mechanic . This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of four years, or more based on any changes to regulations governing the number of years term appointments may last, without further competition at management's discretion. WG9 - 32.19 (Step 1) - 37.61 (Step 5) First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.

Key Responsibilities

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Support carpentry requirements at the center that include installing, modifying, and repair ing framed structures, interior partitions, dry-wall systems, and specialized field/lab items; operate modern shop equipment and power tools safely.

Perform grounds maintenance (mowing, fertilizing, irrigation), operate heavy equipment (chainsaws, mowers, excavators, skid steers), construct and repair facility fencing, and execute winter safety operations (snow removal). Diagnose, install, and repair plumbing systems. This includes maintaining and repairing specialized laboratory water distribution equipment. Conduct routine heating and air conditioning system maintenance.

Monitor, test, and maintain building automation, HVAC, and electrical systems; perform preventive and corrective maintenance; conduct minor electrical troubleshooting and repairs; install and replace electrical components. Operate motor vehicles and heavy equipment; conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on the center's fleet; diagnose and replace vehicle components.
