This position is located in the Mechanical Unit Engineering Section/Service Line. The Maintenance Mechanic serves as the general maintenance mechanic, primarily a carpenter, locksmith, painter and associated trades. Mechanics service and repair building and related fixtures on an emergency type basis and are dedicated to construction and maintenance of both interior and exterior center structures.
Major duties include but not limited too: Performs routine work orders. Performs a variety of preventive maintenance tasks such as carpentry, locksmithing, painting and other related trades required in maintenance and repair of buildings, structures, fixtures, and related property. Makes visual and operational inspections of a variety of wood, brick, metal and masonry buildings to detect deficiencies and determine repair needs.
Determines materials needed, and makes repairs or replaces items found defective. Performs inspections to include checking the condition of foundations, walls, flooring, roofs, doors, windows, plumbing, electrical systems, building approaches and obvious safety and fire hazards. Performs carpentry work involving maintenance and repair of a variety of wood products. Selects lumber, materials, supplies and tools. Measures and cuts materials to required lengths and dimensions.
Repairs or replaces flooring, sheet rock, plywood, siding, sheathing, roofing doors, jambs and window frames, interior and exterior trim. Fabricates and installs frames or casings for windows and doors. Installs doors and door hardware Repairs floors by replacing flooring. Replaces floor tile and vinyl sheet flooring. Uses a variety of hand and power tools to accomplish work. Operates equipment with specially designed attachments used separately or simultaneously.
Ensures accomplished repairs are finished by sanding and finishing. Performs shop mathematics in order to compute measurements, angles, arcs, etc. Cuts various materials to required size or shape, match colors, patterns and materials, and install various materials to obtain proper fit, strength and appearance. Modify and rework locking devices to accomplish special security objectives ,such as securing locked patient floors, pharmacy drug cache, and pharmacy proper.
Change combination on multiple different locks, including safes, vaults, cypher locks, and electronic locking device. Work closely with management in determining the most suitable locks to be used in solving security issues. Modifying hardware or installing different security options such as padlock and hasp, deadbolts, Intrusion Detection Systems, and other variations. Reads and interprets drawings and sketches.
Work Schedule: M-F, 0800-4:30 Position Description Title/PD#: Maintenance Mechanic/PD12503A Physical Requirements: Standing for extended periods of time while operating a variety of carpentry equipment. Work requires continual movement of hands and arms, standing, reaching, stooping and bending.
Physical exertion is required when handling work materials which includes lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds individually, or occasionally lifting or moving heavy or bulky items using lifting devices or with the assistance of additional workers. The position uses many hand-held power tools throughout the day, safely climbs ladders and scaffolding for and works from those locations for up to two hours at a time.
Work Conditions: Work is performed indoors and outdoors and the position is exposed to the elements. Work sites may be hot, dusty, humid, and lack adequate ventilation. Outdoor projects are performed in all types of wither from extreme cold and rain to high heat and humidity.
The position is routinely subjected to the possibility of cuts and bruises from unforeseen hazards associated with building repair and equipment, exposure to high noise levels, irritation of eyes and skin from exposure to fumes, solvents, or paints utilized in the completion of work orders. The position uses a variety of protective equipment such as fall protection, eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, proper footwear, respirators, etc.
