The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA)- works in the Business Office of the Birmingham VA Healthcare Services at the Huntsville CBOC (Mental Health) and is responsible for providing specialized and expert administrative patient support while working collaboratively in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model.
The Advanced MSA provides medical administrative support to several outpatient clinics and is an integral member of the outpatient clinic team to effectively carry out day-to-day administrative operations of the clinic (Mental Health).
Duties of the position include, but not limited to: The Advanced MSA coordinates with the patient care team to review the clinic utilization by using various reports to ensure the clinic setup is closely monitored to effectively support the needs of the clinic. Responsible for setting priorities and deadlines, adjusting the flow and sequencing of the work to meet team and patient needs.
The incumbent assures that all outpatient clinic encounters are reviewed daily for completion and works directly with clinical staff as needed to prevent open encounters for more than 24 hours. The incumbent is responsible for accurate appointment management and coordination of all administrative information between the professional staff and the patient. Must demonstrate technical competency in the use of VISTA, Vet Link, Insurance Buffer Capture (IBC) and CPRS systems.
Incumbent will utilize numerous advanced patient systems in support of multiple clinics involved in an interdisciplinary coordinated are delivery model. Process incoming patient secure messaging through MyHealthVet and coordinates with the care team as appropriate, participates in team meetings and huddles to manage, plan, problem solve and follow-up with patient care by sharing information.
Prepares correspondences to notify patients of normal lab results; manage a system for follow-up care such as consults, tests, etc. Enters appropriate information into the electronic record; monitors pre-appointment information and/or requirements to assure readiness for patient visit/procedure. Provides the customer with consistent information according to established policies and procedures.
Handles conflict and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday. 7:30am -4:00pm. Subject to change based on needs of the agency.
