The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) provides specialized and expert administrative patient support while working collaboratively in an interdisciplinary coordinated care delivery model in Rehab and Extended Care (REC). Work involves specialized administrative judgment and the flexible use of a wide range of clinical flow processes relating to access to care across multiple clinics, specialties, and/or community care resources.
FUNCTIONS OR SCOPE OF ASSIGNED DUTIES: The AMSA develops and/or maintains effective and efficient communication with the patient, interdisciplinary team, VA medical centers, and community providers (e.g., communicate with community medical facilities; release appropriate medical information to community providers, collaborate with the patient and VA Care team; notify patients or community partners of approved care; develop and manage a tracking systems to improve workflow efficiencies.).
Other assignments at this level include, but are not limited to: participating in team huddles and team meetings to manage and plan patient care; setting priorities and deadlines; participating and providing input in problem solving on operational issues or procedures in team meetings, performing administrative follow up actions; participating in and independently following up tasks; ensures accurate preparation and processing of procurement documents, oversees recreation food and supply ordering, and maintains detailed documentation to support budget oversight for Contract Nursing Home (CNH) operations.
The incumbent independently resolves administrative issues, interprets procedural guidance, monitors financial data, encounter creation/supporting the Electronic Heath Record workflow and readiness efforts in the REC Outpatient areas (RT, CNH, etc.).
Performance is judged in terms of overall effectiveness of the operation through broad general objectives and REC Outpatient metrics, the adequacy and accuracy of the work, timeliness, and conformance to established procedures, policies, and instructions. The AMSA provides specialized and expert administrative patient support while working collaboratively in an interdisciplinary care delivery model.
For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher-level duties must consist of significant scope, administrative independence, complexity (difficulty) and range of variety as described in this standard at the specified grade level.
