The Medical Support Assistant (Advanced) is in the PC ICC with the Iowa City VA Healthcare System located at Coralville VA Clinic. The Advanced MSA is the first administrative point-of contact for Veterans, family, and other visitors contacting the Iowa City VA Healthcare System.
This position will provide introductory administrative support to clinical staff members and Veterans, in addition to overseeing the daily clerical functions of the Scheduling of all Primary Care areas.
The Advanced MSA can function independently, carrying out a variety of duties.
The Advanced MSA has advanced knowledge of scheduling appointments, including interpreting and verifying provider orders in accordance with VHA National scheduling guidelines and facility policies.Assignments at this level include, but are not limited to: Scheduling, canceling, re-scheduling patient's appointments and/or consults Entering no show information Monitoring of reports; preparing for clinical visits Monitoring outpatient appointments for areas of responsibility Receiving phone calls Entering patient contact notes and delivering to proper personnel Verifying and updating demographics and insurance information Processing all emergency and nonemergency transfers to other VA facilities or private hospitals.
Perform front desks duties, receive telephone calls, and visitors to the medical facility. The Advanced MSA will utilize a variety of patient data systems in scheduling patients for treatment and annotate in patient records. Advanced MSA will use the ISS, VISTA, CPRS, Insurance Capture Buffer (ICB), Consult Tracking Manager (CTM), Outlook e-mail and other programs as needed, including the keyboard, printer, copier, and fax machine.
The Advanced MSA answers questions and provides information and daily activities to include the following items listed below. The Advanced MSA will operate with little direct supervision. Will follow rules and policies related to clerical functions, staff, and automated data processing methods in support of the treatment of patients.
