Job Summary

The Military Service Coordinator serves as a member of the Public Contact Team for the Honolulu Regional Office's outbased benefits office in Guam. The Incumbent conducts comprehensive briefings to servicemen or women on the processes involved with Veterans Compensation claims.

Incumbent is required to represent the VARO at functions in the area surrounding the installation such as VHA events, Veterans Service Organization events and report back the status of these efforts to the Service Center.

Key Responsibilities

Specific duties include: Performs liaison activities with the Military command structures to properly schedule and conduct briefings. Conducts comprehensive briefings to large groups of service members utilizing a wide range of briefing techniques and communication skills including motivational counseling on the full range of benefits available to Veterans.

Explains benefit programs and entitlement criteria, conducts interviews, identifies issues, gathers relevant evidence, and inputs data necessary to properly develop claims, to include the ordering and scheduling of VA examinations. Provides additional assistance to service members with all types of Veteran Affairs (VA) claims. Conducts thorough Service Treatment Record reviews to ensure appropriate disabilities are included on VA Claim forms.

Serves as intake specialists ensuring compensation and pension claims are received, established, exams ordered, developed and properly routed to the designated Rating Activity Site (RAS), Designated Rating Activity Site (ORAS), or Regional Offices for immediate processing. Conducts group and individual counseling session as necessary, advising service members of available VA and ancillary benefit programs.

Represents VARO at functions in the community and is expected to maintain excellent rapport with peers, VARO staff, with service organization staff and the Veteran community. Recognizes the importance of teamwork and is sensitive to the contributions of others. Communicates, shares ideas and demonstrates respect for differing viewpoints. Consistently and conscientiously exercises sound, equitable judgment in.

applying stated laws, regulations, policies and procedures to ensure accurate information is disseminated. Must demonstrate the ability to work independently, adjust to changing work schedules or pressures, to handle differences of opinions in a businesslike fashion and to follow instructions conscientiously.

Maintains professional, positive and helpful relationships with customers by exercising tact, diplomacy ·and cooperation with all Veterans Benefits Administration partners. Correspondence/briefing materials prepared: Prepares, composes, or reviews correspondence prepared for the purpose of obtaining or supplying information.

Composes general information correspondence that provides explanations of facts or actions taken on materials usually related to common request or questions. Composes statements or develops factual information that supplements letters and determines extent and tone of replies independently, including elements as factual accuracy, tone, style and format as well as the extents to what certain information may be furnished.

Prepares briefing slides and content for specific topic briefings for military, civic or community events. Promotion Potential: None, this position is at the full performance level. Work Schedule: Full time, Monday through Friday, 7:30am - 4:30pm. Compressed/Flexible: Not Available Telework: This position is eligible for situational (ad hoc) telework only. The selectee is required to report to the official duty station each scheduled workday.
