This position is located in the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department in the Navy Region Southwest. The primary purpose of this position is involved in receiving, storing, issuing, signing in and out of various tools, equipment, and repair parts, and maintaining stock records. Located at NASNI Auto Skills Center in Naval Base Coronado, CA.
Identifies, selects and issues tools, parts and supplies in accordance with established procedures; recommends possible substitutes and interchangeable items in the event requested item is unavailable. Determines when tools and equipment should be referred for testing, or repair. Ensures that all tools and equipment are properly identified and assigned a designated space in the tool room according to established procedures.
Checks incoming shipments of stock by comparing item names and identification numbers with receiving reports, and by opening, counting, and visually checking contents of containers. Reports overages, shortages, or damaged items. Prepares and maintains individual custody cards used to check tools in and out. Ensures accuracy and that cards are up-to-date with required information.
Maintains stock at prescribed levels and reorders to maintain adequate stock of needed merchandise. Recommends substitutes for out of stock items, utilizing catalogs and bulletins, etc. May be required to pick up needed parts and supplies. Conducts periodic inventory of supplies, equipment and tools, identifies discrepancies, short and/or damaged items, and advises supervisor so that corrective action may be taken.
Accounts for merchandise in stock and/or transferred items, etc. Responsible for issuing all supplies, equipment and tools to shop personnel. Follows up to assure return of items and checks upon return for damage or maintenance needs. May perform minor maintenance such as cleaning stock and parts, applying protective coatings, replacing wooden handles on broken tools, etc. Ensures all records are kept pertaining to hazardous material and hazardous waste handling.
Maintains hazardous material storage in neat and orderly fashion. Also is responsible for maintaining the tool room in clean and orderly manner. Observes fire, sanitation, safety and security rules and regulations.
