Job Summary

NIST is seeking an Optical Spectroscopist to join the Mass and Force Group in the Quantum Measurement Division. This position involves assembling an experimental system for time-resolved spectroscopy using optical frequency combs to quantify precursors and byproducts during atomic layer deposition cycles. This notice is issued under direct-hire authority to recruit new talent to occupations for which NIST has a severe shortage of candidates.

Key Responsibilities

As an Optical Spectroscopist, this role focuses on using experimental equipment to conduct time-resolved spectroscopy during atomic layer deposition cycles The Candidate will: Construct and test optical systems for quantifying species using innovative optical methods. Automate the collection of experimental data. Fit theoretical lineshapes and quantify the species present. Publish results in scientific literature and present findings at conferences.

Collaborate creatively as a member of an applied research team. Follow health, safety, and environmental guidelines and procedures while contributing to improving the safety of the work environment.

Requirements & Education

This position has an education requirement. Transcripts must be submitted to validate that the education requirement has been met. Unofficial transcripts will be accepted in the application package. However, an official copy will be required before a final offer of employment. Use of foreign education for qualifications. An accredited organization must evaluate education completed outside of the U.S.
