The VA New York Harbor Healthcare System (NYHHCS), St. Albans (Queens) Campus, is recruiting for a full time Psychiatrist. VA NYHHCS is a multi-site medical system that includes major medical facilities in Manhattan, Brooklyn, St. Albans campus in Queens, and two Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs). VA NYHHCS is an academic facility with teaching and research programs.
Duties of the position include: Provide comprehensive psychiatric services to residents of the Community Living Center (CLC) at the St. Albans campus. Conduct psychiatric consultations, evaluations, and treatment assessments for CLC residents. Deliver ongoing psychiatric care, including medication management and monitoring of treatment effectiveness.
Develop and provide behavioral assessment and management recommendations to support patient care and interdisciplinary treatment planning. Serve as a psychiatric resource to CLC medical providers through ad hoc curb-side consultations, offering timely clinical guidance and recommendations. Respond to behavioral crisis codes and psychiatric emergencies within the CLC setting.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to promote high-quality, patient-centered care and optimize resident outcomes. Provide backup walk-in coverage for the Mental Health Clinic at the St. Albans campus to ensure continuity of psychiatric services. Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted.
Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated.
NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.
The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
