Qualified applicants will be forwarded to the hiring manager on a weekly basis. Major duties and responsibilities include: Clinical Care: Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations and assessments to diagnose mental health conditions in veterans. Develop, implement, and monitor individualized treatment plans, including pharmacotherapy and various forms of psychotherapy.
Provide medication management services, including prescription, monitoring, and adjustment of psychiatric medications. Offer crisis intervention and immediate care for veterans experiencing acute psychiatric crises. Collaborative Care: Work cohesively with a multidisciplinary BHIP team, including psychologists, social workers, nurses, and primary care providers, to ensure comprehensive and holistic care for patients.
Participate in team meetings and case conferences to discuss patient care plans and progress. Education: Provide education and support to patients and their families about mental health conditions, treatments, and coping strategies. Serve as a clinical educator for medical residents, offering supervision, mentorship, and instructional sessions to enhance their psychiatric training and clinical skills.
Administrative and Documentation: Maintain accurate and timely medical records, including patient evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes, and medication management. Ensure compliance with VA policies, procedures, and regulatory standards. Service-Level and On-Call Coverage: Provide outpatient psychiatric care consistent with the operational hours of the Outpatient Mental Health Section.
Participate in on-call coverage as required, addressing urgent mental health needs outside of regular clinic hours. Work Schedule: M-F, 8am-4:30pm
Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in allopathic medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Approved schools are: Schools of medicine accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) for the year in which the degree was granted.
Schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA) for the year in which the degree was granted. For foreign medical graduates not covered in (1) or (2) above, confirmation must be made that the medical school meets (or met) Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) eligibility requirement for year graduated.
NOTE: The Under Secretary of Health or designee in the VHA Central Office may approve the appointment under authority of 38 U.S.C. 7405 of a physician graduate of a school of medicine not covered above if the candidate is to be assigned to a research, academic, or administrative position with no patient care responsibilities.
The appointment will be made only in exceptional circumstances where the candidate's credentials clearly demonstrate high professional attainment or expertise in the specialty area.
