The VA San Diego Healthcare System (VASDHS) is a Level 1a major interdisciplinary teaching healthcare system, offering a variety of Inpatient and Outpatient services to Veterans at the medical center in La Jolla and at the six Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) located in Chula Vista, Escondido, Imperial Valley, Kearny Mesa, Oceanside, Sorrento Valley, and Rio Clinic.

Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) in the Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) program, you play a vital role in supporting clinical operations, fostering evidence-based practice, and ensuring high-quality, recovery-oriented care for Veterans. This position requires you to dedicate 50% of your time to direct clinical patient care, while also providing leadership and guidance to PCMHI nursing staff.
Your collaborative approach enhances care coordination between primary care and mental health teams, maintains standards, and supports ongoing program development. Key responsibilities include: Provide direct clinical supervision to PCMHI nursing staff. Coordinate daily operations and patient assignments within PCMHI. Conduct performance evaluations and support professional growth. Lead care coordination efforts across primary care and mental health services.
Promote and apply evidence-based mental health interventions. Monitor patient safety and protocol adherence. Participate in quality improvement initiatives. Support training, orientation, and ongoing PCMHI nursing education. Ensure accurate and timely completion of CPRS documentation. Serve as a liaison for interdisciplinary communication. Address operational challenges and escalate issues as needed. Maintain awareness of resources and report supply needs.
Enforce adherence to facility, VA, and regulatory policies. Foster a recovery-oriented environment for patient engagement. Support the growth and enhancement of PCMHI programs and services. Deals effectively with employee conduct and performance issues, completing disciplinary action where appropriate and/or necessary. Addresses and resolves complaints from and/or of employee members as able or appropriately referring more serious complaints.
Completes and updates competencies for staff education to relevant and pertinent skills. Addresses patient complaints/concerns which may include collaboration with Patient Advocacy Services to complete required investigations and ensure appropriate resolution. Leads and participates in service level and medical center committees. Leads unit based huddles and disseminates information timely to employees. Provide direct clinical patient care for 50% of assigned duties.
