The Registered Nurse (Endoscopy) is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based procedural care to assigned patients, and is accountable for all elements of the nursing process in the Endoscopy Unit. NOTE: The 2-page Resume requirement does not apply to this position.
The Registered Nurse (Endoscopy) provides patient care, care coordination, health promotion, health education and coaching on wellness, disease prevention, and chronic care management. Provides competent, evidence-based procedural care to assigned patients and oversight of licensed vocational nurses and health/nursing assistants, as appropriate to the procedure setting in the Endoscopy Unit.
Assists in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies, and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization. The Endoscopy Nurse administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines. Other duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: Delivers and manages the care of patients undergoing therapeutic and diagnostic endoscopy procedures including both inpatients and outpatients.
Assesses patients' physical and mental status prior to procedures, educates on procedural and post-procedural care, and documents responses to interventions, findings, and reports any changes. Recognizes changes in patient care situations and initiates appropriate emergency situations. Functions in several roles to include, pre-procedure assessments, post procedural recovery, and assisting physicians during procedures.
Maintains proficiency in the maintenance, cleaning, and preparation of endoscopy specific equipment. Partners with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team to promote effective and safe transitions across the health care continuum, including the Veteran's goals of ca Performs other related duties as listed in functional statement.
