The Registered Nurse - (Domiciliary-Mental Health) is responsible and accountable for all elements of the nursing process when providing and/or supervising direct patient care. Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care. Follows procedures per established policies and guidelines.
Influences care outcomes by collaborating with members of the interdisciplinary team.
Major Duties: Provides competent, evidence-based, patient-centered, recovery-oriented care. Maintains self-awareness when caring for individuals with substance use disorders and/or mental health conditions. Facilitates shift reports, warm hand-offs, and nurse-led psychoeducational groups. Uses therapeutic communication, de-escalation, and recovery-oriented language. Oversees patient safe-medication management.
Participates in interdisciplinary MH treatment teams, patient safety rounds, and environment-of-care rounds. Responds to psychiatric and medical needs and emergencies. Reports safety concerns and documents assessments, risk screens, plan of care, and safety/environmental rounds per policy. Maintains professional boundaries. May face exposures to infectious materials, combative patients, loud/chaotic environments, and modified work conditions.
May be required to use PPE for extended periods, work in various settings, screen potentially infectious patients, and participate in labor pools. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required Assists with nursing education, orientation, competency development, and quality improvement initiatives. Participates in MH interdisciplinary teams, safety rounds, and emergency responses.
Reports safety concerns and documents assessments, risk screens, plan of care, and required rounds. Fosters a safe, supportive environment for professional development. Supports colleagues through knowledge sharing and safe practice promotion. Demonstrates strong leadership within interdisciplinary MH teams; works collaboratively and independently. Promotes critical thinking and leads participation in safety and environment-of-care rounds.
Directs team responses to psychiatric/medical emergencies and helps resolve safety concerns. Documents assessments, risk screens, measurement-based care tools, plan of care, and required rounds. Provides constructive feedback to peers.

The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN), Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN), or Master of Science degree in Nursing (MSN) must be fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or the Commission On Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
