Job Summary

The VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System (GLAHCS), West Los Angeles facility, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to serve as Nurse Manager for Primary/Specialty Clinics. The Nurse Manager provides clinical and administrative leadership, oversees patient care delivery, coordinates care across the continuum, collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, and leads innovative process improvement initiatives to improve patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Serves as the first-line supervisory authority with responsibility and accountability for the operations of assigned Primary/Specialty Care units. Provides coverage and leadership support for other Nurse Managers within Primary/Specialty Care as needed. Directs and supervises staff orientation, training, competency development, professional growth, and individual performance evaluations.

Functions as a role model, educator, practitioner, and supervisor while providing effective leadership to nursing staff and the interdisciplinary team. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to remove barriers to care and improve patient outcomes. Leads the implementation and evaluation of evidence-based practices, innovative programs, and process improvement initiatives.

Promotes accountability for the delivery of safe, high-quality, culturally competent, and cost-effective patient care. Applies ethical principles, sound judgment, and accountability in decisions affecting patients, staff, programs, and organizational operations. Develops collaborative relationships across the continuum of care through effective communication, active listening, engagement, and emotional intelligence.

Contributes to the development and evaluation of care delivery models that promote evidence-based, accessible, affordable, and equitable patient care. Aligns nursing and clinical objectives with organizational strategic priorities and participates in strategic planning and implementation. Ensures compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, VA Directives, policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Promotes an inclusive and supportive work environment that values diversity and advances the organization's mission, vision, and strategic goals. Provides constructive feedback, coaching, mentoring, and knowledge sharing to support staff performance and professional development. Fosters a safe and supportive environment conducive to the development of nurses and other healthcare professionals.

Provides the professional nursing perspective during interdisciplinary discussions, decision-making, and patient care planning. Partners with clinical and administrative leaders to implement change and achieve optimal patient, staff, and organizational outcomes. Evaluates the effectiveness and outcomes of evidence-based decisions, interventions, and practice changes for individuals, groups, and populations.

Demonstrates responsibility and accountability for broad, complex, and measurable outcomes at the program or service level. Participates in professional organizations and activities that enhance nursing leadership, professional development, and career growth.
