The Quality, Safety & Value Consultant Patient Safety Registered Nurse is accountable to Quality, Safety & Value (QSV) Leadership at the Minneapolis VA Health Care System (MVAHCS).
In collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders, and using nursing process and process improvement principles, the RN Consultant practices within QSV Department by providing coordination, implementation, and evaluation QSV and organizational goals and other quality activities within the hospital.
The Quality, Safety & Value Consultant Patient Safety Registered Nurse will partner with key stakeholders and initiate improvement efforts as needed. They perform quality management and performance improvement activities in support of system improvements that ultimately are designed to improve quality of care and services provided, customer service activities, or other business procedures used by MVAHCS.
The QSV RN Consultant will act as an inside consultant for an array of Quality Management programs within QSV, but is primarily assigned to the Patient Safety Program, with the understanding that the incumbent will also have the agility and ability to work as a consultant with other departments and services and supporting other QSV programs as needed or assigned.
Major duties include, but are not limited to: Facilitate and lead teams for key organizational initiatives related to organizational performance metrics, driving improvement initiatives from problem identification to sustainment of corrective actions.
Promotes a culture of high reliability and psychological safety within the system and partners with clinical and operational leaders and staff to ensure that standards and regulatory requirements are met in an environment of continual readiness efficacy. Continually evaluates and improves processes, activities, learning, and communication within these programs. Research and design advanced development opportunities for both employees and leaders at all levels.
Conducts Root Cause Analysis, Proactive Risk Assessments, processes JPSRs, tracks and trends data, and educates staff on safety reporting systems. Skilled in development of plans to measure, analyze, and report results of related data. Self-starter who works independently with minimal supervision, demonstrates expertise in management of tight deadlines, working on multiple projects/initiatives at once, and utilization of resources to meet departmental/organizational goals.
Experience in preparing and presenting information, formal presentations, and education/training, to all sizes of audiences from frontline staff to Executive and/or VISN leadership. Builds knowledge and abilities of MVAHCS staff to support and improve patient safety, Readiness, and High Reliability. Chairs and /or participates on assigned organizational committees, teams, or rounding, assuring fulfillment of committee charter/functions, and acting as quality liaison.
Active change agent and mentor related to Continuous Readiness, Process Improvement, and High Reliability continuously seeking out ways to improve processes and patient care. Partners with the local and regional counterparts to identify and implement evidence-based practices. Utilizes Lean principals, evidence-based practice, and other VHA-endorsed processes to promote process improvement.
