Job Summary

The Registered Nurse Evidence Base Practice Coordinator (EBPC) will serve as a leader in change process for the promotion of sustainable outcomes; demonstrate a leadership role in enhancing group dynamics, process skills, and facilitating team decision making by using decision tools related to EBP.

The EBPC fosters the integration of nursing and evidence-based best practice, including the translation of research finding into improving patient outcomes by the implementing and evaluating EBP.

Key Responsibilities

The EBPC is responsible for working collaboratively with the Associate Director of Patient Care and Deputy Associate Director of Patient Care, multidisciplinary teams of clinicians, operational staff, students, and other key stakeholders: Developing, implementing, coordinating, and the evaluation of research related EBP project activities.

Disseminate the results through presentations internal and external to Hines VA, by publicizing best practices through publications, presentations, and other formats to build nursing knowledge. Analyzing nursing practice for gaps in policy or procedure and nursing service practice enhancement opportunities. Serve as lead for organizing and executing EBP events, including but not limited to the annual EBP training and development.

Serve as the EBP subject matter expert (SME) representative to various organizational committees, councils, and as the chair or co-chair of the EBP committee. Provide oversight of complex health care issues that influence health care and policy development, promoting the VHA vison and mission by adhering to ethical standards for process improvement and scientific inquiry.

Participate in the review of literature to assure that policies, procedures, and ethical standards are protected. Ensure that education programs on the EBP process are in place and effective to meet the needs of nurses. Demonstrate integration of nursing excellence standards resulting in improved outcomes at the team level and beyond. Collect, analyze, interpret, and report on productivity and other EBP related metrics Support specific EBP, quality improvement initiatives.

Develop and implement measures to sustain and grow EBP activities. Develop and test solutions to improve EBP. Leads both local and organizational level workgroups and committees Ensure that the facility integrates well established EBP models for development, education and processes for improvement. Monitor functional data from EBP and develop interventions to act when necessary. (e.g., staff satisfaction and productivity). Formulates progress reports as required.

Participates in strategic planning and alignment of goals with service level, facility level, and national organization goals. Keep abreast of best practice, research, and relevant clinical information to identify own educational and professional development needs.
