Job Summary

This position is with the U. S. Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), within the Directorate of Standards and Guidance (DSG), located in Washington, DC. This position is at the full performance level. This position is inside the bargaining unit. This position is NOT remote. Selectee will be expected to report to the office above.

Key Responsibilities

Duties for the Safety Engineer include, but are not limited to the following: Assisting the Office of Regulatory Analysis and the the Office of Technological Feasibility in the preparation and review of regulatory assessment studies to support standards. Responding to requests for technical information from OSHA personnel regarding unusual engineering safety problems not covered in standard procedures or readily available references.

Developing and/or modifying occupational health standards and guidance materials. Providing analyses, recommendations, and evaluations of engineering feasibility of proposed abatements, standards, and variances. Developing innovative methods and techniques for evaluating hazards involving unusual or new work processes, operations, equipment, and materials.

Advising experts in other national offices on the development of uniform applications, procedures and criteria for assuring compliance with general industry standards and regulations.

If your education was completed at a foreign college or university, you must show comparability to education received in accredited educational institutions in the United States and comparability to applicable minimum coursework requirements for this position.
