The Security Specialist serves under the GS-15 Director of Security, Executive Secretariat, Office of the Secretary of War (OSW). The incumbent operates with wide programmatic initiative as a senior technical advisor tasked with developing precedent-setting policy proposals, establishing security architectures, and managing the security program.
Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following: Provides senior technical authority and programmatic governance for the personnel security and SAPs portfolios. Serves as a principal staff advisor to the Director of Security and senior Do W leadership on Information Security and emerging IT threat paradigms. Serves as a senior technical advisor and programmatic authority for physical security and facility accreditations across OSW Immediate Office secure areas.
Authors directs, and establishes the strategic vision for the Department's Security Education and OPSEC programs to ensure the workforce remains fully prepared to counter emerging threat vectors.
Applies a wide range of concepts, principles, processes, and practices to independently review, analyze, and resolve complex policy and program issues involving personnel access to classified information, classification, downgrading, and incident reporting of national security information.
Performs administrative functions associated with processing and managing accreditations and certifications for secure facilities, personnel security clearances, and establishes policy, procedures, processes, and standard operating procedures for the Executive Secretary and associated areas of responsibility.
Participates in continuous security analysis and evaluations of existing security procedures and recommends and implements improvements and corrective measures to upgrade security programs as required.
