Job Summary

The Senior Social Worker facilitates and coordinates social work services that include intake, assessments, and evaluation of both inpatient and outpatient referrals of the Oncology Center of Excellence which is comprised of the Oncology, Hematology, and Radiation Therapy.

Key Responsibilities

Total Rewards of a Allied Health Professional Duties for this position include, but are not limited to: Provide specialized treatment of complex physical or mental illness, including adjustment to chronic or life threatening diagnoses and readjustment/re-integration to the community after completion of treatments. Provide educational information to veterans and their families regarding cancer and treatment related issues.

Educates referral sources, community agencies, Veteran Service Organizations and other interested parties regarding the scope and management of this patient population. Provide referrals to VA and community resources as needed by inpatient and outpatient hematology, oncology, and radiation therapy patients. Facilitates treatment and discharge plans for hematology and oncology admitted patients.

Provide individual, group, and family psychotherapy or counseling and advanced level case management interventions used in the treatment of veterans with oncology and hematology. Provide consultation to colleagues and students on the psychosocial treatment of patients treated in specialty areas, rendering professional opinions based on experience and expertise and role modeling effective social work practice skills.

Provide or refer for couples/family interventions as indicated. Providing sufficient clinical care for competency assessment, peer review, and credentialing and privileging processes. Participation in a peer review process, as assigned. Serve as a mentor, including new employee orientation, if privileged to perform and as assigned. Providing LCSW supervision, if privileged to perform and as assigned. Participating in data collection and practice standardization activities.

Providing information to Social Work Professional Practice Council regarding their needs as an individual practice member. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm or 8:00am-4:30pm (Subject to change based on the needs of the Agency). Recruitment/Relocation Incentives (Sign-on Bonus): Not Authorized. Permanent Change of Station (Relocation Assistance): Not Authorized. Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases.

When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade). Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year).

Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66. Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA.
