This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment.
Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.
The Social Worker position is in the Social Work department at the VA Boston Healthcare System located at the Jamaica Plain, MA location. This position is full time at 40 hours per week. The Social Worker position provides coordination of care and outreach in multiple forms to homeless veterans. Duties include, but are not limited to: Completes hotline calls, providing information, referrals and, as needed, services to at risk of becoming homeless and homeless veterans.
Serves veterans who are attempting to access care through the Homeless Hotline and the Homeless Walk In Clinic assuring connection to service provision and follow up for each veteran seen, while meeting national timeframe guidelines for this access.
Engages in coordination with the VA, the Massachusetts Department of Veterans Services and the city of Boston and surrounding communities on the South Shore to locate the most vulnerable and chronically homeless veterans on the street and in shelters in order to refer them to VA services and/or other resources. Coordinate services with VA providers and provides outreach to veterans who have been referred assigning them to appropriate staff or resources as needed.
Identifies high-risk patients and provides case management services and provides crisis intervention services, seeking to address the cause as well as the presenting complaint, coordinates family conferences and serves as liaison to family members. Provides referrals or consults for other VA programs. Has working knowledge and experience in use of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities and treatment procedures.
Establishes and maintains effective therapeutic relationships with veterans and their families. Works with patients and families who are experiencing a variety of psychiatric, medical and social problems utilizing individual, group and family counseling and therapy skills. Provides consultation services to other staff regarding the psychosocial needs of veterans and the impact of psychosocial problems on health care and adherence to treatment plan.
Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing with people from varied backgrounds. General knowledge of veteran's benefits and services relating to special programs, service connected to compensation and non-service-connected pension. Pay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).
Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience. Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.
