Job Summary

You will serve as a Special Use Permits Assistant in the Administration Division with National Park Service. Open to the first 50 applicants or until 10/02/2026 whichever comes first. All applications submitted by 11:59 (EST) on the closing day will receive consideration.

Key Responsibilities

Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. It is anticipated that you will work approximately 25 pay periods, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year from mid-December to the end of December, however funding may dictate a longer period in non-pay status. You are only guaranteed 13 pay periods.

Salary Range Per Annum: $54,370-$70,682 Salary Table 2026-POR Incorporating the 1% General Schedule Increase and a Locality Payment of 26.13% For the Locality Pay Area of Portland-Vancouver-Salem, OR-WA. First time hires to the Federal government normally start at the step 1 rate.

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following: Receives inquiries on Special Use Permits, permit conditions, and short-term lease information on the phone, in print, in email and in person.

Communicates information, writes permits using standardized and specialized permit conditions, and oversees cost recovery charges for routine requests such as ceremony, large picnics, small athletic events, small film and photo shoots, and small first amendment permits. Negotiates terms and conditions of permits with permittees, within established parameters. Consults with the Business and Administration Manager (GS-12) on new and complex permits.

Refers the most complex permit requests to the Business and Administration Manager. Takes the lead on smaller to mid-range permits and can assist with more complex permits. Drafts permits and leases from low to mid complexity in accordance with established laws and regulations. Maintains administrative records related to Park Special Use Program.
