Job Summary

Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations, Seattle Field Office, Area Port of Seattle, located in Seattle, Washington.

Key Responsibilities

Joining the Customs and Border Protection Office of Field Operations will allow you to use your expertise to detect and prevent terrorists and instruments of terror from entering the U.S. Apply for this exciting opportunity to strengthen Homeland Security by performing law enforcement activities that enforce the laws and regulations related to the import and export of agriculture, commodities and baggage entering and/or exiting the United States.

This position starts at a salary of $119,630.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $155,521.00 (GS-13, Step 10). In this first-line supervisory position you will become a key member of a team of Homeland Security professionals detecting and preventing terrorists and instruments of terror from entering the U.S.

Typical work assignments include: Managing the local Agriculture Canine Program by overseeing operational activities, coordinating logistical support, resolving technical program issues, and ensuring detector dog teams support CBP agriculture enforcement and facilitation priorities.

Reviewing canine program performance, operational trends, contractor services, and resource needs to recommend improvements, support program effectiveness, and coordinate with Field and Headquarters program officials as appropriate.

Applying agriculture-related laws, regulations, policies, and procedures to resolve operational issues, support enforcement actions within delegated authority, address conflicts, and promote compliance with CBP security and animal health requirements. Planning, organizing, and conducting canine proficiency, certification, field performance, and remedial training activities to maintain and improve the effectiveness of assigned agriculture detector dog teams.

Supervising employees by assigning and reviewing work, setting priorities, approving leave, evaluating performance, resolving employee concerns, recommending personnel actions, and taking or recommending appropriate corrective or disciplinary actions.
