Job Summary

Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Training and Development, U.S. Border Patrol Academy located in Artesia, NM. Additional selections may be made beyond the total number of vacancies specified using this vacancy announcement. Further selections may also be made for additional organizational divisions and/or units within the duty location(s) listed above.

Key Responsibilities

Relocation Authorized Position: Relocation expenses have been authorized for this position. The Division Chief is responsible for directing, coordinating, and evaluating major training, operational, administrative, and law enforcement programs within the U.S. Border Patrol Academy through subordinate Assistant Chief Patrol Agents. This position starts at a salary of $129,258.00 (GS-14, Step 1) to $168,040.00 (GS-14, Step 10).

Major duties include: Provides strategic direction and senior advisory support on Academy operations, training strategy, workforce development, curriculum management, and the impact of new or revised training initiatives. Recommends long-range plans, program priorities, organizational changes, resource allocations, and the initiation, modification, expansion, or curtailment of major training programs.

Oversees law enforcement training programs that prepare trainees to become Border Patrol Agents capable of performing detection, interdiction, apprehension, processing, detention, prosecution support, and immigration and criminal law enforcement duties.

Exercises supervisory and managerial authority over subordinate Chief Patrol Agents, including assigning work, setting priorities, evaluating performance, resolving complex issues, reviewing staffing needs, and directing budget, facilities, resource, liaison, and program evaluation activities.
