Job Summary

The Supervisory Health System Specialist Group Practice Manager (GPM) reports to the Chief of Staff, who provides broad policy guidance through discussion with the incumbent. The GPM ensures a high quality Veteran experience by acting on continued feedback from Veteran customers, family/significant others, engaged employees and expert clinical teams at the Detroit VA Medical Center.

Key Responsibilities

The GPM provides oversight and administrative operations management of all ambulatory care services at the Detroit VA Medical Center and all related CBOCs, including Primary Care, Mental Health, Medical/Specialty Care, Surgery and Clinical Support Services, integrating all aspects of ambulatory care into the Group Practice Management structure. Duties below are not limited to.

The incumbent will assist with preparation, review, and evaluation of requests for additional resources including medical and non-medical equipment, additional or redirected staff, funds, reallocation of resources, and/or space. Incumbent is granted authority for providing administrative program direction to multiple service supervisors/managers.

In collaboration with clinical and administrative leadership, the incumbent will develop, evaluate, and adjust organizational structures, policies, procedures, and management systems to continually improve performance and efficiency.

The GPM will effectively communicate and act as an interdisciplinary team member to settle disputes between sections and services, address personnel actions which effect key employees or issues which could adversely affect the functioning of teams and/or individuals in clinical care services. Develops both long and short-range policies and plans for the organization and coordinates medical administration needs of the facility.

Incumbent must adapt the principles, practices, processes, and techniques common to any situation to the specialized requirements of the facility. Provides expert administrative input and participation in the planning process to improve care delivery by taking the initiative to identify needs and potential issues/concerns. Develops flexibilities in operations and constructive, cost-effective approaches to resolve problems.

Participates in the formative stages of ambulatory care managerial planning to assure an awareness of medical administrative issues and implementation of process changes are considered and assessed for their impact on other aspects of the healthcare delivery process. The incumbent serves on various facility strategic management and planning committees internally and with other agencies and program goals.

Incumbent participates in the analysis and interpretation of workload and other data used in resource planning. Incumbent participates in policy-making, planning and management decisions impacting the operation of health care delivery. The incumbent works independently with Clinical Service Chiefs/Care Line Managers, Nurse Managers, Patient Business Service Supervisors, and Administrative Officers to address their administrative process/system issues and problems.

The GPM leads services and care lines in lean management, systems redesign, and process development based upon knowledge of VHA's and Detroit's My VA organizational philosophy, policies, and management principles. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 8:00am-4:30pm. Schedule may be subject to change based on the needs of the Agency. Virtual: This is not a virtual position.
