You will serve as a Supervisory Range Technician (Livestock) with the National Park Service. This position is located in Lyndon B Johnson National Historical Park, in the Integrated Resources Program.
The position serves the functional purpose of "ranch manager," providing for a full complement of farm and range land management duties for Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park in the Interpretation and Resources Management Division. The position supervises all aspects of the park's ranching and farming operations. This includes managing the park's historic herd of registered Hereford cattle consistent with an existing herd management plan.
Natural and Cultural Resource Management - Manages and supports the preservation, protection, and restoration of natural and cultural resources associated with the historic ranch landscape. Applies resource management principles to make operational decisions involving rangelands, vegetation, soils, watersheds, wildlife habitat, agricultural lands, and historic landscape features.
Range, Agricultural, and Vegetation Management - Plans and implements grazing, crop production, irrigation, haying, soil management, erosion control, and integrated pest and invasive vegetation management activities to protect natural resources and preserve the historic agricultural landscape. Coordinates applicable Section 106, NEPA, NPS policy, safety, and pesticide requirements.
Supervision - Performs the full range of supervisory responsibilities for ranch staff, including assigning and reviewing work, evaluating performance, approving leave, employee counseling, and recommending personnel actions. Administrative and Operational Management - Assists with program planning, budgeting, goal setting, and execution of operational priorities and manages records, supplies, materials, equipment, and other needs necessary for effective ranch operations.
Visitor Programs and Interpretation - Supports public interpretation and educational outreach related to ranch operations, livestock management, and historic agricultural practices. Provides informal visitor interpretation and participates in demonstrations, special events, educational programs, and activities supporting local agricultural youth organizations.
