Job Summary
IT positions located in the Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), Office of Technology and Survey Processing (OTSP) provide IT support to all aspects of BLS data development initiatives. BLS measures labor market activity, working conditions, price changes, and productivity in the U.S. economy to support public and private decision making.
Key Responsibilities
Supervisory IT Project Managers specializing in Software perform the following functions: Lead software development projects from planning through delivery by organizing tasks, timelines, and resources, building workable schedules, breaking down work, tracking progress, identifying risks, and keeping leadership informed.
Design, build, and maintain software applications by translating customer needs into technical requirements, managing major components through their lifecycle, and supporting updates and integrations. Assign work based on skills and priorities while providing training, feedback, and guidance on both technical and administrative tasks to support staff development.
Ensure software meets quality standards and functional requirements by applying QA/QC practices, validating functionality, and resolving defects through repeatable processes. Communicate goals, progress, risks, and outcomes to senior leaders and partners, delivering clear presentations that translate technical topics into accessible information.
