Job Summary

This position is located in Region One, Mission Support in Maynard, Massachusetts. The ideal candidate for this position will be experience in disaster operations, telecom systems, interoperability, classified environments, stakeholder coordination, and staff supervision.

Key Responsibilities

What will I do in this position if hired? In this position, you will serve as Supervisory Telecommunication Specialist. Typical assignments include: 1. Advising on emergency communications readiness: Serves as a technical expert to FEMA Region I leadership on disaster emergency communications requirements, communications readiness, and interoperability needs. 2.

Coordinating regional communications planning: Leads or supports Regional Emergency Communications Coordination Working Group activities, including coordination with Federal, State, Tribal, Territorial, local, and private-sector partners. 3.

Managing telecommunications systems and equipment: Supports the planning, operation, maintenance, and integration of tactical and operational communications systems, including radio, satellite, cellular, data, and video communications capabilities. 4. Supporting disaster response operations: Deploys or provides remote support during incidents, exercises, or activations to ensure FEMA staff and response teams have reliable communications capabilities. 5.

Supervising staff and managing work: Assigns work, sets priorities, evaluates performance, approves leave, identifies training needs, and provides technical and administrative guidance to subordinate telecommunications staff. What else do I need to know? At FEMA, our mission is to help people before, during and after disasters, and every employee at FEMA has a role in emergency management.

Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description.

Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
