Job Summary
The Supervisory Transportation Industry Analyst in the Office of Safety leads the analysis and integration of transportation data to support safety decisions. The incumbent manages nationwide safety programs, applies machine learning to large datasets, and develops performance measures. They supervise a team of high-level analysts and serve as a principal technical advisor, representing the agency to external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
As a Supervisory Transportation Industry Analyst, you will: Supervise and manage the development of nationwide transportation safety programs by analyzing crash, inspection, industry, and census data to formulate policy direction and support field operations. Oversee large-scale projects that manage the full lifecycle of transportation industry knowledge, applying advanced computational and machine learning methods to extract strategic insights from new or big data.
Develop and implement data-based performance measures to monitor office-wide accomplishments, improve operational efficiency, and evaluate the effectiveness of commercial motor vehicle (CMV) safety programs. Direct and supervise a team of Transportation Industry Analysts, which involves planning and assigning work, evaluating staff performance, selecting candidates, and handling disciplinary matters.
Serve as an authoritative technical advisor, representing the agency to senior management, state officials, and industry representatives to provide expert-level insights and resolve complex or controversial transportation data issues.
The ideal candidate has experience applying analytical and evaluative principles and measurement techniques to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of agency-wide programs; expert knowledge of Federal and State government, policies, directives, and other regulatory guidance as it pertains to motor carriers; skill in oral and written communication to provide technical expertise, policy and procedural interpretations on the policies, directives, and other requirements in a clear, concise manner; and ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing complex and technical information to diverse audiences about FMCSA programs.
