Key Responsibilities

As a Supervisory Wildland Firefighter (Assistant Fire Chief, Geographic Area) your duties will include but are not limited to the following: Serves at the Assistant Chief of Fire Programs within a Geographic Area of the U.S. Wildland Fire Service (USWFS).

Provides leadership, oversight, and supervision over wildland fire programs (Fuels, Fire Prevention, Fire Workforce and Training, Fire Trespass, Fire Planning, Safety and Wellness, etc) within a large and highly complex wildland fire organization. As Assistant Fire Chief, works under the GW-15 to direct either wildland fire management programs or wildland fire operations on Federally managed lands within the Geographic Area assigned.

Plans, organizes, and oversees a wildland fire management programs that is aimed at achieving and improving wildland fire management. Serves as a senior advisor to executive leadership on developing and implementing strategic plans in support of achieving national wildland fire program objectives.

IMPORTANT - PLEASE NOTE: There is no qualifying education for the 0456 series at the GW-14 grade level.
