Job Summary

Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Facilities and Asset Management, Asset and Administrative Management Division, 1 vacancy located in Washington, DC.

Key Responsibilities

The Uniforms Management Center (UMC) ensures CBP law enforcement personnel have cost effective uniforms and uniform gear and responsibly delivers CBP uniform lifecycle management, mission-enabling uniform solutions, and services that increase agent and officer safety to ensure a dependable, professional image in support of the CBP mission. This position starts at a salary of $121,785.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $158,322.00 (GS-13, Step 10).

Typical work assignments include: Developing technical requirements and specifications for uniform items in consultation with CBP offices, vendors, and external research and development organizations. Leading projects to improve the design, fit, safety, serviceability, and wear acceptance of uniform products.

Verifying by test or inspection that textiles or uniform products meet operational, safety, and performance requirements, to include durability, moisture-wicking, fire resistance, and overall comfort. Creating testing plans, surveillance procedures, and technical specification documents for a wide range of uniform items. Reviewing textile research, development, and test data from other organizations, such as the Navy Clothing & Textile Research Facility, U.S.

Army Combat Capabilities Development Command Soldier Center.

Requirements & Education

This position requires a degree in textile technology or a combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major in textile technology that included at least 20 semester hours in textile technology and closely related subjects, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
